Making Bunk Bed Shopping Easier
With so many models, options and configurations available, shopping for bunk beds can be a daunting process. To make the task a bit easier, remember the following:
] Bunk beds are designed in three main configurations – twin over twin, twin over full, and full over full. For two young children, close in age, twin over twin might be best. If there is a wider age difference, then twin over full will give the older child more room. Full over full would work well for two older children.
] Full over full might also be a wise investment even for two younger children if you intend to use the bed throughout their growing years.
] Full over full might also be an excellent choice for a dorm room, or for two young adults sharing a small apartment.
] If you need beds for three children, then you have several choices. A three tiered bunk bed will take up the smallest amount of floor space, but the children in the lowest and middle bunk won’t have much head room. A bunk bed with trundle will give you three beds at night, but occupy no more space during the day than an ordinary bunk bed. Finally, an L shaped loft bed will offer two raised beds, with the space under the second bed available for furniture or a desk.
] If either you or your child is not comfortable with a ladder to the upper level, there are bunk beds available with stairs.
] If storage space is very tight, there are many beds that offer storage drawers under the lower bunk. And if even more storage would be helpful, bunk beds with stairs can be fitted with built in drawers in the stairs.
] Beds can be constructed of either wood or metal, and are available in a wide range of colors and finishes. All are sturdily built and withstand the exuberant play of children.
] Styles range from the sleek and modern metal frames to traditional wood pieces, form rustic log structures to princess castles and fire trucks. Consider where the bed will be used and how long it will be used before choosing a style.
] Mattresses are generally sold separately, and are available in memory foam, high density foam and innerspring coils. The thicker the foam, the firmer the mattress, while wider innersprings give more support than narrower springs.
] If you start to feel overwhelmed, contact us. We’re here to help and we know our stuff. If we can help you narrow the choices and make an informed decision, then we’ve done our job.
